Fascia & Soffit Repair in Salem, Oregon

Fascia & Soffit Repair in Salem, Keizer and the Mid-Willamette Valley

The fascia is the board the gutter hangs on. When water has been running down the back of the trough for a few Oregon winters, that board goes soft — and a soft board has nothing for a hanger to bite into. Re-hanging a gutter on rotted fascia is a repair that fails by spring.

Fascia repair runs $5–$12 per linear foot — call (503) 555-0142 for a number on your address.

Why Gutter Companies End Up Doing Carpentry

A gutter problem becomes a carpentry problem quietly. A gap opens between the trough and the board, water tracks down behind instead of into the gutter, and the back of the fascia stays wet for months at a time. By the time you can see staining from the ground the board is usually soft for several feet either side. We would rather replace it and hang the gutter on something solid than screw new hangers into wet wood and call it fixed.

How the Repair Runs

Probe and Mark the Damage

The board is probed along its length to find where sound wood starts and stops. Rot always runs further than it looks from the ground.

Gutter Removed and Set Aside

The run comes down in one piece where possible, so it can go back up rather than being replaced along with the board.

Cut Back to Solid Framing

Damaged board is cut back to the nearest sound rafter tail, so the new piece lands on framing and not on a butt joint in mid-air.

New Board Fitted, Primed and Painted

Replacement board is primed on all six faces before it goes up, including the cut ends, then finished to match the existing trim.

Gutter Re-Hung and Re-Pitched

The run goes back on hidden hangers into solid wood, re-pitched toward the outlet, and water-tested before we leave.

What moves the price up or down

  • How far the rot actually runs — we quote from a probe, not from a photo.
  • Whether the damage stopped at the fascia or reached the rafter tails behind it.
  • Board material and whether an existing profile has to be milled to match.
  • Height and access, and whether the gutter run can come down in one piece.

These are the ranges we quote most often, based on published 2026 cost data for Salem and the Portland metro and on our own jobs. They are estimates, not a quote — every price is confirmed in writing after we have seen the property, and it does not change afterwards unless you ask for extra work. Material Choices

Primed Cedar or Fir

The traditional match on most Salem homes. Takes paint well and can be milled to match an existing profile exactly.

PVC Trim Board

Will not rot, ever. Costs more up front and is the sensible choice on the elevations that keep failing — usually north-facing and shaded.

Aluminium-Wrapped Fascia

Existing board capped in coil stock. Fast and low-maintenance, but only appropriate when the wood underneath is genuinely sound.

Vented Soffit Panels

Where the soffit is being opened up anyway, vented panels improve attic airflow — which is what actually prevents ice dams at the eave.
